Should we encode our extensions

Posted by Niranjan in GeneralBlog

Recently we have come across a few websites on the internet, in which our extensions have been found to be given away for downloads. All our extensions except JV-LinkExchanger Basic Edition, are commercial extensions which have license agreement and they are not shareable.

We are shocked at this action of such users who share our extensions. This violates the license agreement and can even ban or let us initiate legal proceedings against them. Morover our extensions are reasonably priced and infact we would say that they are under-priced for the features and support the purchasers get.

Neverthess such actions from a few users around the internet, are making us consider the option of strict licensing options and possibility of encoding our future versions of the extensions. A lot of hardwork and effort are being invested into the extensions development and support and the least we would expect from our buyers is to respect and abide by the license agreement.

We request our users and customers to let us know what they think about this and in specific about strict licensing measures and encoding of products. Strict licensing processes and encoding of products would mean additional processes for installing and using the extensions for all customers. We do not prefer to move in this direction, as we want our purchasers to enjoy, customize and use our extensions to their will and desire, but we are afraid if we can continue to provide un-encoded extensions, if a small minority of users share our extensions in the open.
